HOW DO I APPLY?

Send an e-mail telling us which country and project you would like to join. MMI will send you an application form and conduct statement.

As a Christian organization, it is important that each participant lives by Christian values both at home and on the outreach. For this reason, participants sign a conduct statement which outlines MMI’s expectations of each participant while on the outreach.

DOES MMI TAKE NON-MEDICAL PARTICIPANTS?

MMI accepts non-medical participants to:

Help in the pharmacy
Assist nurses giving treatments
Give out reading glasses
Help the dental clinic
Work with the construction team

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SEND TO JOIN AN MMI TEAM?

MMI application form
Signed MMI conduct statement
A notarized photocopy of your medical diploma
A notarized photocopy of your medical practicing license
For medical professionals, a resume of work experience since graduation
First-time participants must provide a letter of reference from your pastor or clergyperson.

All documents must be sent to naida@medicalmission.ca or faxed to 506-646-1894
two months before the outreach.

DO I NEED A DEPOSIT WITH MY APPLICATION?

Participants joining their church team may pay their deposit and participation fee directly to their team leader.

Participants travelling alone must send a non-refundable deposit of $100 USD to MMI. Participation fee is due one month before the outreach.

HOW MUCH IS THE PARTICIPATION FEE?

Central and South America: $700 per person for a one-week project
Mali, Africa: $950 per person for a two-week project

Your participation fee includes:

In-country transportation
Food
Housing
Project manager expenses
Debriefing activities
Medicine and medical supplies

Additional expenses:

Airfare and in-country airport departure tax
Laundry service
Junk food
Internet use

WILL I GET A TAX DEDUCTIBLE RECEIPT?

Yes! Your flights and participation fee are eligible for a tax-deductible receipt.

WHAT DO I DO IF I AM TRAVELING BY MYSELF

MMI staff will meet you at the airport when you arrive and take you back to the airport for your departure.

DO I NEED A TRAVELLER’S VISA?

Canadian and American citizens do not require a visa to enter Nicaragua, Panama or Peru.

Canadian and American citizens require a visa to enter Mali, Africa. MMI will provide you with the necessary information to acquire a visa.

WHAT IMMUNIZATIONS DO I NEED?

Once accepted to an MMI outreach, please visit your local health clinic for a complete list of recommended immunizations.

For outreaches to Mali, Africa, all participants must take Malarone for protection against malaria.

ARE THE OUTREACHES SAFE?

Outreaches are located in politically safe environments
Water is bought or purified
Local cooks follow North American hygiene standards
No extreme-sports activities
Always travel in groups

HOW DO I BRING A TEAM FROM MY CHURCH?

MMI will:

Look for an appropriate outreach for your team
Obtain medical work permits from the outreach country
Co-ordinate all the logistics to host your team
Lead the team during the outreach
